It all began when Sir Dorab Tata, then doyen of Indian industry, had to present a memorandum to the Secretary of State in London. On his return, Sir Dorab acquired an interest in the Commercial Printing Press and finally took it over in the year 1931. From an inhouse printing unit for the Tata Group, the press took rapid strides and was spun off separately as Tata Press Ltd in 1966. To reflect its transition from a commercial printing house to a publishing powerhouse, the company was renamed Tata Infomedia in 2000. In 2003, the Tatas exited Tata Infomedia, in order to focus better on its core businesses. Infomedia India is structured around 4 lines of business - Directories, Publishing, Printing Solutions and Direct Marketing. In addition, Infomedia is also looking to expand into Publishing Outsourcing and other fast-growing sectors. The company is led by a professional team of managers headed by Prakash Iyer, Managing Director, who in turn reports to the Board.
